The Ingalls Development Foundation is a federal 501 c 3 tax exempt organization that was established in 1982 to raise funds to support the mission of Ingalls Memorial Hospital, to improve the health of the Southland communities we serve.

Our very first donor, industrialist Frederick Ingalls, who founded his namesake hospital in 1923, continues his family’s philanthropic legacy to this day by designating Ingalls as sole beneficiary of two charitable trusts named after Mr. Ingalls’ wife and daughter.

The Wind Creek charitable trust promises to continue this legacy at Ingalls of prominent business leaders making long term philanthropic investments in sustaining quality healthcare for our Southland patients and residents.

As beneficiary, Ingalls Development Foundation (IDF) will honor donor intent by investing distributions from the Wind Creek trust in our Community Impact Fund and Ingalls Development Foundation.  The Community Impact fund was created following the merger between Ingalls and UChicago Medicine in 2016.  Its purpose is to award Ingalls Impact Grants to fund healthcare activities through community based programs, including cooperation with local organizations that sponsor healthcare initiatives to address identified community needs and improve the health status of the elderly, poor, and other at-risk populations in our core Thornton Township community.  More than 30 municipalities throughout the Southland are represented, including East Hazel Crest and Homewood. The Ingalls Development Foundation raises funds to enhance direct patient care through capital investment or program support at our hospital in Harvey and outpatient facilities in Flossmoor, Tinley Park, Calumet City and Crestwood.
